Making A Name For Yourself

An all-reader word game by Richard Smith 2007

Overview

This game is for all readers to join in at any time, and runs over five rounds. Each round there are five categories and five person's names. Players must use the letters in two of the five names to try to make answers that fit the five categories. Letters may be used once only.

Word Validity

For each category, to be valid, your answer must have its own page on Wikipedia, The page must be at least a stub (but not a redirection or disambiguation), and any words in brackets are ignored. E,g, in the example below the page is Siamese (cat). The GM must also be satisfied that the word or name belongs to the category specified. Names must be full e.g. "John Lennon" not just 'Lennon' or 'John' for a member of The Beatles.

A Round

Each round you can score a maximum of 5 points, one for each category that you find an answer for. However, the supplier(s) of the longest word in each category wins a bonus letter. This letter is permanently retained in the player's rack for use in subsequent rounds in conjunction with the two names selected for that round. Players may specify their choice of bonus letter(s) - otherwise a random letter is awarded.
